It’s a new year and there has never been a better time to reset your home. I’m a believer that you can do this anytime throughout the year, but there’s something to be said for a fresh beginning.

Every year after the holidays are over, I crave simplicity. I’m the type of person to take down my holiday decor on December 26th. Don’t get me wrong I love the holidays, but the clutter it brings is something I can only tolerate for so long.

A new year feels like an invitation to start fresh, and approach my home with a new perspective.

I like to consider all the senses when giving a space refresh. So here are some things to consider when you reset your home this season. Sounds, sights, smells.

Starting off by putting on a fun playlist to get me in the mood, and lighting a candle for the season so I can be in the right headspace for what needs to happen next.

Refreshing new year simmer pot

If you don’t have any candles to burn or maybe you just want to try something a little different, my go to is a simmer pot! Here is a recipe for one that will have your house smelling so fresh and clean.

What you need:

  • 2 medium lemons
  • 2 tablespoons dried lavender
  • 2-3 sprigs of rosemary

Fill a small pot with water. Add the lemon slices, rosemary, and lavender. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a low simmer. Let it simmer for several hours, adding more water as needed. Refrigerate between uses. Keep up to 3 days.

Embracing new beginnings

A new year home reset doesn’t have to be expensive or a burden. I consider it a time to embrace new beginnings and change even in the simplest of ways.

Think about the spaces of your home you have been neglecting. Maybe that pile of shoes by the front door finally deserves a solution. (Try putting them in a basket like this one or a shoe rack like this!)

You could also add some other fun decor to bring a space back to life. Maybe some dried faux flowers to a vase (I’m a big fan of dried arrangements, like these!) Or some new throw pillows for your couch. I also found this throw blanket and I’m obsessed!

Remember: a little can go a long way!

A clean slate

Whatever the reset process looks like for you, don’t get overwhelmed by thinking this needs to be a complete redo of your entire house.

Instead, look at this as a chance to slow down, reset your mind, and start with a fresh new slate.

My hope is you will approach this next season with intention and purpose!

Happy resetting!
