The best homemade pizza dough you will ever make! Seriously! I’m a little embarrassed to admit how many times I have actually used this recipe because we make pizza THAT much… but it’s true. So when I say that it is tried and true, I really do mean it. But before we dive in too far, let me clarify that this is not a sourdough discard recipe! While I do love my sourdough, sometimes I just want something a little bit quicker and more simple. We bust out the instant yeast on those occasions!
Ready to start making the best pizza from scratch? Let’s dive in!
Ingredients
- 1 & 1/2 cups lukewarm water (about 110F)
- 2 packets (1/4 ounce each) instant dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup olive oil , plus more for bowl and drizzling
- 1 teaspoon coarse salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled), plus more for work surface
Instructions
- Pour the water into a large bowl. Sprinkle with yeast and let stand until foamy (I usually cover the bowl with a towel), for about 5 minutes. Whisk in the sugar, oil, and salt. Add flour and stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Brush another large bowl with a little olive oil. Place dough inside and drizzle a little oil over the top. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm, draft-free place until dough has doubled in size (This takes about 1 hour usually)
- Turn out onto a floured work surface and knead the dough 2 to 3 times, forming into a round shape. Let it rest for 10 more minutes.
- Use right away or store as is for 1 large pizza, cut in half for 2 medium pizzas, or divide into 4 equal portions for individual pizzas.
