Looking for simple and engaging October preschool curriculum ideas? This month-long plan includes 5 weekly themes—farm animals, hunting, pumpkins, Halloween, and more—plus hands-on activities, crafts, book recommendations, and Bible verses. Perfect for homeschool moms teaching toddlers and preschoolers, this guide makes fall learning fun, seasonal, and faith-filled.
October is such a fun homeschool month! There are so many fun themes to pull from—fall, pumpkins, farm animals, woodland creatures, and of course Halloween! With my little ones, I like to keep things hands-on, seasonal, and simple while weaving in Biblical truths along the way.
Here’s a peek at what our month looks like:
Our Breakdown For This Month
Week One: “New Month”
We’ll start by learning about October itself—talking about the new month, the weather changes we’ll notice, and getting excited for what’s ahead. My kids also have dentist appointments this week, so I’ll be including a few dental health activities to help ease nerves and get them curious instead of fearful.
Week Two: Farm Animal Unit
This week is all about the farm! We’ll talk about different farm animals, the sounds they make, and what they provide for us (milk, eggs, wool, etc.). I also love tying in what the Bible says about animals and how God calls us to be good caretakers of them.
Week Three: Hunting Unit
Since Tyler is heading out on a hunting trip, we’ll lean into that theme. We’ll talk about why people hunt, what animals provide for us, and explore woodland creatures like deer, rabbits, and squirrels. It’s a perfect opportunity to introduce stewardship and gratitude for God’s creation.
Week Four: Pumpkin Unit
This is always a preschool favorite! We’ll focus on the letter “P” while baking pumpkin treats, carving and scooping out seeds, and exploring the parts of a pumpkin (stem, rind, pulp, seeds). It’s messy, sensory, and educational all at once.
Week Five: Halloween Unit
We’ll end the month with a lighthearted, non-scary approach to Halloween. Think crafts, costumes, and pumpkin fun—without the spooky side. It’s a great way to join in the festivities while keeping things age-appropriate.

Final Thoughts
October is such a fun month to embrace seasonal learning and watch little eyes light up with discovery. My biggest reminder (for myself too!) is to keep it simple—toddlers don’t need elaborate plans to learn. A themed craft, a Bible verse, and some playtime often make the best lessons.
Whether you follow this plan week by week or just pull a few ideas here and there, I hope these October preschool curriculum ideas give you inspiration and a gentle framework for your month of learning!
