Welcome to Elrod Ranch! We are the Elrod’s! (Lol – Duh!)
A married couple with dreams bigger than the Montana sky. Our family mission is to become first generation cattle ranchers and build a legacy for our children to carry on with them.
I’m Sarah, the one you will likely hear from the most. The “face” if you will, behind the brand. My job around here is to document our lives, and share all that we have going on. My husband, Tyler, is the real brains of the operation. The business guru and the man with the plan.
We work together as a team bringing different strengths to the table to make this work for us. On our path to cattle ranching, you will find a little of everything. From homemaker hacks, to ranch kid activities, entrepreneurial tips, and much more.
Where it all began
Our story began in 2018 when Tyler came across my Facebook page. He saw that I was a horse trainer and sent me a message asking for my rates.
At the time he was living in Montana, I was in California. But God knows no distance and brought us together. Within a month I was on an airplane headed east to meet a stranger from the internet.
It was a job opportunity of a lifetime that I simply couldn’t pass is no matter how crazy it seemed. And of course, the cute cowboy sweetened the pot even more.
I was only in Montana for 2 weeks when I realized that Tyler was the one for me. Unfortunately tragedy struck and I ended up breaking my leg when one of the colts I was starting threw me off and stepped on my leg.
That very same night after a trip to the hospital, Tyler packed up my bags and drove me to California for a surgery I needed.
24 straight hours of driving. An actual hero.
And then 2 weeks after that, he was packing his bags yet again. But this time he was making the cross country move from Montana to California so we didn’t have to do long distance dating. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined someone doing all of this for me. I’m truly the luckiest girl in the world.
Where we are now
Life happens and things get thrown at you that you never expect. After Tyler moved to California, the job hunt wasn’t exactly easy. So after a few months he ended up back in the Midwest. This time to work in the oil field. After a few months, I decided to take the leap and move out there too. We were only there for a short time but it was some of the best days in our relationship. We grew a lot together during that time!
From North Dakota, Tyler took yet another job. This time in Reno, Nevada. A place we never in a million years thought we would end up but here we are.
We currently reside on a 50 acre ranch that we rent. We might not own it, but this place is home for now. It has been the place we started our marriage, had both of our babies, and hold so many memories between these walls.
What’s next?
One day we will get back up to Montana. At least that is the plan. But for now we are walking through every door that God opens and trusting in his journey. We have a trucking company we started a couple years go, and we are praying that it might be our ticket to move onto bigger things.
Calculated Risks
We had a conversation recently with some friends about risks. The ones we have taken in life and so on. And I couldn’t help but laugh. Because from the very moment Tyler and my life collided, we have been jumping head first into a pile of risks. Or at least that is what it feels like. I always joke that life with Tyler is never boring, but it’s so true. Prior to meeting him, I would have considered myself a risk taker and a big dreamer. However, when I met him, I met my match.
He dreams bigger than the sky and runs head first toward the things we wants in life. They don’t always work out, and for most people that would be enough of a reason to get scared and stop. But not for Tyler. He continues to push forward, isn’t afraid of trying new things, or taking leaps in life that no one else would ever consider. I love that fire about him so much and he has lit a fire inside of my soul that I never even know was there. People always ask if I am on board with the things he wants to do, and the answer is always a big, fat YES. Trusting Tyler comes easy for me. He is smart, and calculated with just enough crazy. But most of all, he is a man who walks with Jesus and so I know everything will always be alright.
