It’s time to start planning our annual Valentine’s Dinner!
For as long as I can remember, most of the Valentine’s days Tyler and I have shared together have been date nights at home. Since the holiday tends to fall on a weekday, it usually works out better with Tyler’s work schedule. Plus the homebody in me is never upset about wearing sweatpants instead of a fancy dress.
But of course since having kids, a date night at home is just way more practical. Sure, we could hire a sitter and go out. However, that’s not really our style. We love to include our kids in the fun of the day and celebrate our love with them and for them!
I can’t wait until they are older and we can continue this little tradition we have started and the kiddos can pitch in with jobs. But for now, I will take on the tasks of setting the table, cooking, choosing the music, and lighting the candles. Every year I want to change up the menu and the decor, but I thought it would be fun to share what I have chosen for this February 14th! And maybe it will inspire your own family date night in!
Note: As fate would have it, my parents are actually gifting us with a night out this year! But I will still be doing family dinner with the littles, just not on the 14th!
The Menu
Since we are parents of a toddler and a baby, we keep things simple here. Sure, I include some steaks of course for us, but also some tried and true toddler faves as well! As for baby Fallon, she’s just happy to be here! Here’s the lineup for this year’s menu:
Starter
You can never go wrong with bread and butter to kick off a good meal. I will of course have some delicious homemade sourdough on hand ready to be devoured by the whole family.
Salad & Sides
I’m thinking a simple green salad and vinaigrette, with mashed sweet potatoes, and a roasted veggie! Simple, and yummy! My favorite!
Main Meal
Normally I would do steaks, but I have pork chops in my freezer right now that are calling my name! This recipe is my favorite to keep them juicy!
Dessert
It wouldn’t be Valentine’s day without chocolate covered strawberries! So of course the kiddos and myself will be enjoying this yummy treat together. And maybe we will share with Tyler…
The Table
Valentine’s decor might be some of my favorite’s! I love the feminine details of pink and red! But coming from the sad beige mom girlie that I am, I like to keep a neutral base. For balance, ya know? To find the happy middle for a Valentine table-scape, I like to think of decor that feels celebratory but also feels intentionally put together for the people that are there. AKA: children and my husband. This year, I’m playing around with vintage and cottage-core themes. Things that perfectly fit in with the ranch feel! Roses are classic, so of course those are involved too!
Scalloped Plate set (ceramic, or plastic options), Woven placemats, Blush colored linen napkins, vintage glassware (glass, or plastic options), Vintage flatware set, Vintage cast iron candle holder, Artificial dusty roses, Terracotta flower vase, Dried accent daisy flowers
Here’s a fun little printable to put on the place settings too! You could also tie it onto a gift! Just click the image to print it!
Gifts For The Kiddos!
One of the best parts of being a mom (in my opinion) is getting to make every holiday feel special! My mom always went all out for everything when I was growing up, so getting to carry on that tradition for my kids is so fun! You can do this too, and it doesn’t have to be crazy expensive to make a lasting impact!
I love surprising my babies with something small, that makes them feel special! Of course Amazon is always my go to place for quick finds! Click here for my gift guide for the whole family!
For Boys | Construction book, Dump truck chalk, Wooden puzzles, Wooden train toy
For Girls | Bow print romper, Cuddle bug book, stuffed musical caterpillar, Pink heart blanket
