Meet Roscoe! The useless ranch dog as I like to call him. Roscoe has never worked a cow a day in his life but that does not mean he is not loved and appreciated around here. You see, I got Roscoe when he was just 5 weeks old (yes I know that is earlier than it should have been – but it was an emergency). And in true 22 year old girl getting her first dog fashion, he came with me everywhere. I brought him to work with me as a photographer. He came to every social gathering, and friend hangout. He even came to restaurants with me when dogs were allowed.
This year Roscoe turns 7 years old and I wanted to celebrate my puppy dog for all the things that he is to me.
The Best Guardian
Anyone who has come in close contact with Roscoe knows, he means business. This dog is protective as all get out and will never shy away from guarding his people. This can get annoying at times when he shut his brain off and chases the UPS man down the street. But when my dog is around, I feel safe knowing he would have no problem defending me and the kids if push came to shove.
Fast Learner
I think anyone with a cattle dog breed will tell you just how smart these dogs really are. I never had a dog like him growing up. But now that I have gone down this road, I will probably never turn back. Cattle dogs are so incredibly smart and athletic! In Roscoe’s case, mostly just smart ha!
Loyal Beyond Words
My favorite thing about Roscoe is how loyal he is. He is not a dog who wanders or leaves your side. We don’t even keep a collar on him because he is never going anywhere. On our 50 acre property, he knows to stay near us and that he does.
Going from being my fur child to my dog was probably not an easy adjustment on him. Over night, he went from being my whole world to just part of it. But there is still beauty in this season. I now get to watch my dog be the thing my kids love the most in our house. They are always smiling when he is around. Wanting to play. We don’t know how much longer we will have with him but we do know the impact that our Roscoe boy has left on our hearts!
