If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that entrepreneurship is almost never a straight road.

It’s full of twists, setbacks, new ideas, failed ideas, late nights, and moments where you wonder if you’re completely crazy.

But somehow… we keep saying yes.

I think it takes a certain kind of person to marry someone with big dreams.

For years, I always joked that I was the biggest dreamer I knew.

Then I met Tyler.

And I met my match.

Dreaming Together

Between the two of us, we’ve started more businesses than we ever imagined.

Photography, horse training, custom farming, a trucking company, and now… Elrod Ranch.

Some of those ventures lasted for years. Others were simply stepping stones that taught us valuable lessons and prepared us for what came next.

None of them were wasted.

Tyler has always dreamed bigger than anyone I’ve ever met.

He sees opportunities where most people see obstacles.

He’s willing to work harder than almost anyone I know, and he’s never been afraid to start over if it means building something better.

Over the years, that mindset has become part of who we are as a family.

What I Really Wanted

Long before I ever became a mom, I knew something was different about the life I wanted.

Growing up, both of my parents worked and most of my friends’ parents worked too.

I honestly don’t remember knowing any stay-at-home moms.

But somewhere deep down, God had placed a different desire on my heart.

I wanted to build a home and to raise my children.

Being present for the little moments that often pass by too quickly was extremely important to me.

Of course, that’s not exactly something you tell your high school guidance counselor.

When you’re seventeen, people ask what career you want, not what kind of family life you hope to build.

So I quietly carried that dream with me.

Entrepreneurship Was Never About Money

People often assume entrepreneurship is about making more money.

For us, it never was.

It has always been about freedom. Something to build our days around our family.

The freedom to raise our children together.

Freedom to create something meaningful instead of simply trading time for a paycheck.

Could I work full-time outside the home? Absolutely.

Would our household income be higher? Probably.

But we’ve realized that more income doesn’t automatically create the life we want.

Time is something you can never earn back. These years with our children are precious. They’re fleeting.

And for our family, we’ve chosen to prioritize being present as much as possible.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy. Being home with young children has stretched me more than any job ever could.

It’s taught me patience, sacrifice, contentment, generosity and grace.

It’s one of the hardest and most rewarding callings I’ve ever experienced.

Building Something That Lasts

Even though motherhood is my greatest calling, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial heart too. I love creating and building.

Dreaming about what’s possible.

That’s why Elrod Ranch means so much to us.

We’re not simply building a business, we’re building something our children can someday be part of. A legacy.

Whether they choose to carry it on someday is entirely up to them.

But we want them to grow up seeing what’s possible when faith, hard work, and perseverance come together.

More Than One Path

One of the greatest gifts we hope to give our children is the understanding that there isn’t just one “right” way to build a life.

College is a wonderful option. Starting a business is another.

The path looks different for everyone.

Success isn’t defined by a specific degree, paycheck, or job title.

It is faithfully stewarding the gifts God has given you.

For some people, that may look like climbing the corporate ladder.

While for others, it may look like raising children, running a business from home, or building a family ranch.

Neither path is more valuable than the other. The important thing is choosing the life you’ve been called to live and not the one everyone else expects you to.
